Request to access data for research purposes – by the EDMO Task Force on disinformation on the war in Ukraine

In order to have a complete understanding of disinformation, access to relevant datasets of the online platforms is key as it would allow to identify actors, vectors, tools, trends and patterns.

For this reason, and with the war in Ukraine as a focus, on 16 March 2022, the EDMO Task Force on disinformation on the war in Ukraine, has sent the following request to (in alphabetical order): Alphabet, Meta, Pinterest, Snapchat, Telegram, TikTok, Twitter.

Top-line aggregate data concerning impressions (views) and engagements, by platform/product, of everything in the EDMO factcheck database.

  • Data should reflect the original post identified by fact-checkers as well as additional posts containing similar content.
  • Data should be contextualized by comparison with impressions and engagement data for (1) other fact-checked content unrelated to Ukraine and (2) the top 10 news media stories for the same period (with URLs provided).
  • Data should be broken down by Member State.

Top-line aggregate data concerning impressions (views) and engagements, by platform/product, for each Member State, of posts labeled as state media connected to events in Ukraine.

Reports should contain enough methodological detail for the research community to evaluate the representativeness of the data.

We hope to receive this information in a timely manner, and consider it a benchmarking process that we would expect to be replicated on a regular basis.
